Dating from the 1880s, this French 18K gold necklace is formed of a complex design of twisted and ribbed interlocking knots and and stylized openwork spacers joined by trace links. An unusual form dating from the great era of chain making, this necklace is a classic antique jewel from an era of great workmanship.

Dimensions: 20.00" length.

The knot has been popular in gold jewelry since the ancient Greeks, who used the motif in wedding armbands and bracelets to symbolize the unbreakable bonds of the marriage partnership.
