Description
A striking Art Deco tazza (footed dish) by the celebrated French silversmith Puiforcat, executed in polished silver plate with a fluted, lapis lazuli-lacquered column at the stem. The shallow, boat-shaped bowl rises from a tiered, concentric-ringed neck — a hallmark of Puiforcat's Machine Age aesthetic — resting atop a matching stepped circular base with the same rippled, wave-form banding. The vertically fluted column, lacquered in a deep lapis-blue finish, provides a bold contrast of color and texture against the mirror-polished silver, a signature Puiforcat device for combining precious metal with rich, saturated color accents.
The underside is signed "PUIFORCAT FRANCE" with a screw-assembly construction typical of the maker's stemmed wares, allowing the bowl to be secured to its base.
This piece exemplifies the clean geometry, stepped forms, and luxe material pairings that define French Art Deco silver of the interwar period, and would make a striking centerpiece or catchall on a console, vanity, or dining table. -
