Decorative Folk Art Wooden Chest, France, 19th Century

Offered by: Goldwood by Boris

Description
This 19th-century French folk art chest is constructed in solid wood and distinguished by its highly individual decorative treatment. The front is articulated by vertical framing elements and deeply shaped, curvilinear carvings that create an expressive rhythm across the façade, complemented by more restrained linear detailing. A hinged wooden lid opens to reveal a substantial interior divided into two compartments, while the original-style iron lock plate and strap hinges reinforce its vernacular character. Built as a functional storage piece rather than formal cabinet furniture, its robust construction, irregularities and deeply developed patina preserve the evidence of prolonged use and traditional craftsmanship. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
