Rare Large Shaped Brass Wall Mirror Stamped by Fontana Arte

Fontana Arte rare large shaped wall mirror in brass and silvered mirror glass, Milan, Italy, 1940s. Stamped FONTANA ARTE MILANO on the reverse.

An elegant and unusual Fontana Arte mirror distinguished by its sculptural asymmetrical profile. The upper edge is formed by three broad rounded arches of varying proportions, while the lower edge curves gently inward before rising into softly rounded corners. The irregular outline gives the mirror a distinctive character while retaining the restrained quality associated with Fontana Arte's early mirror production.

The original silvered mirror plate is set within a narrow brass frame with a warm aged patina. The frame follows the outline continuously and is secured along the sides with small period screws. The simplicity of the brass construction allows the unusual silhouette of the mirror to remain the primary decorative element.

The reverse retains its period partial wood structure and stamp on manufacturer's stamp on reverse bearing the FONTANA ARTE / MILANO. The substantial scale and unusual shaped form make this a particularly appealing example of Fontana Arte's iconic Italian mid-century brass mirror production.
