Description
An impressive and unusually large antique English porcelain tea or coffee pot, made in England during the mid to late 19th century by the renowned Spode towers pottery company. Beautifully decorated in a classic blue and white palette, this substantial vessel showcases finely painted English scenic decoration depicting picturesque countryside views and charming cityscape scenes, all rendered in rich deep cobalt blue against a crisp white porcelain ground.
The oversized form features an elegant rounded body with a traditional spout, and decorative handle, creating an imposing yet refined presence. The detailed scenic decoration captures the romantic character of the English landscape, with architectural and pastoral elements carefully arranged across the surface. The rich cobalt blue contrasts beautifully with the white ground, emphasizing the scale and intricate decoration of this unusual piece.
Measuring approximately 13 1/2 inches in diameter and 9 1/2 inches high, this exceptional vessel has a substantial presence and is both decorative and versatile. It can be used as an impressive tea or coffee pot or displayed simply as a standalone tableware or decorative object on a dining table, sideboard, kitchen dresser, console, or cabinet. The underside retains its original Spode maker's mark and stamped markings, documenting its English manufacture. The piece is in great antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. An unusual and highly decorative example of 19th-century English blue and white porcelain, combining impressive scale, beautifully rendered scenic decoration, and the timeless appeal of Spode craftsmanship. -
