Description
A sculptural set of four contemporary drinks tables by Texas designer Aaron Lyons, combining hand-composed glass mosaic, lacquered wood, and raw steel in a striking exploration of color, geometry, and industrial construction.
Each table features an individually composed mosaic top of small glass tiles in shades of violet, lavender, soft pink, gray, black, white, and unexpected accents of brilliant yellow. Set against dark grout, the tiles form four related abstract compositions that read independently yet resolve into a larger, cohesive pattern when the tables are brought together.
The mosaics are inset within substantial black lacquered wood frames, deliberately finished so that the natural grain and texture of the wood remain visible beneath the dark surface. This subtle material quality provides a warm counterpoint to the glass and exposed metal structure below.
Each top is supported by a slender raw-steel column terminating in an unusually broad square steel base. The steel is left visually honest beneath a clear protective finish, retaining the character and variation of the material. Integrated black rubber glides penetrate completely through the steel base plates, making an ordinarily concealed functional element an intentional part of Lyons' industrial design vocabulary.
Designed as a set, the four tables offer considerable flexibility. They can be arranged tightly together to create a single larger geometric composition, clustered with slight separations for a more sculptural presentation, or distributed individually throughout an interior as drinks or occasional tables. Even when separated, the recurring colors and motifs maintain a visual dialogue between the four pieces.
The result is a particularly successful intersection of functional furniture, mosaic art, and industrial design—precise and graphic from above, while the exposed steel construction gives the tables an architectural presence from every angle.
Materials: Glass mosaic tile, grout, black lacquered wood, raw steel with clear protective finish, integrated rubber glides
