Description
A striking pair of contemporary drinks tables by Texas designer Aaron Lyons, combining richly colored glass mosaic, lacquered wood, and exposed raw steel in a highly graphic, architectural design. Shown and photographed as a pair, the tables are priced and sold individually, although they make an especially compelling set.
Each table features an individually composed glass mosaic top built from a vibrant palette of lavender, violet, pink, red, orange, yellow, white, gray, and black. Dark grout crisply defines the individual tiles and gives the compositions an almost pixelated quality. While closely related, the two mosaics are not identical; each is conceived as its own abstract composition, with the patterns complementing one another when placed side by side.
The mosaic tops are inset within substantial lacquered purpleheart wood frames. The warmth and depth of the wood provide a particularly effective transition between the jewel-like glass mosaics and the more industrial steel structures below.
Each top is elevated on a slender square steel column welded to a substantial raw-steel base. The metal is protected with a clear finish that intentionally preserves the natural coloration, surface variation, and evidence of fabrication rather than disguising it. Black rubber glides pass directly through the steel base plate, transforming a practical furniture component into a visible part of Lyons' design language.
The contrast between the finely ordered mosaics, richly finished wood, and deliberately exposed steel gives the tables a character that is at once handcrafted and industrial. Their compact scale makes them ideal beside a lounge chair or sofa, while the sculptural bases and graphic tops allow them to stand independently as functional objects.
Offered individually, the tables can be used separately throughout an interior or paired together, where their related colors and mirrored visual rhythms create a particularly strong dialogue.
Materials: Glass mosaic tile, dark grout, lacquered wood, raw steel with clear protective finish, integrated rubber glides
