Description
Produced by Casa Finland in Brazil during the 1960s, this compact bar cart brings architectural clarity to the rituals of serving and entertaining. Casa Finland’s furniture and domestic objects formed part of the broader dissemination of modern design in Brazil, translating functional needs into carefully articulated wooden forms.
The design is organized across two horizontal levels, framed by substantial raised borders with softly rounded ends. On the upper tier, two recessed serving surfaces flank a narrow central compartment intended for upright bottle storage. This opening integrates a practical function into the composition, preserving the cart’s low silhouette. Below, open storage areas on either side of the central support accommodate glassware, coasters, and serving accessories. Small metal casters introduce mobility beneath the visually grounded structure.
The imbuia is particularly expressive. Beautifully aged, its warm brown surface reveals amber highlights, dark flowing veins, and intricate swirling grain. Broad rails and uninterrupted tray surfaces give these natural variations room to unfold, while the satin sheen emphasizes the wood’s depth without overwhelming its texture.
Restrained in outline yet rich in detail, the cart reflects a distinctive strength of Brazilian modern furniture: the ability to make lesutility, proportion, and the character of native timber equally central to the design. -
