Description
"One of the most innovative objects designed by Pietro Chiesa's ardent creative mind is unquestionably the famous cartoccio vase"
That is the first sentence by renowned italian glass expert, Franco Deboni, starting the chapter on Cartoccio vases, in his superb book titled:
"Fontana Arte; Gio Ponti, Pietro Chiesa, Max Ingrand", published by Umberto Allemandi & C. 2012
This small jewel of a cartoccio vase transcends it's size with lyrical artistry. From every angle it speaks to why some works of glass are just more successful than others. The unusual vibrant green color is uplifting. It comes with it's original tiny sticker showing the "fa" logo for fontana arte. Cartoccio vases were formed by heating and folding sheet glass against a variety of forms. The glass used came in a variety of color, thicknesses and finishes. One of the first cartocci I sold had a wonderful impressed waffle pattern. This cartoccio is exceedingly thin sheet glass and is satin finished on the exterior with a smooth interior. -
