Jonathan Savage continues to spread his wings with exciting projects and industry recognition. In 2017, SAVAGE Interior Design was invited to design the main staircase and second floor landing at the 45th Kips Bay Decorator Show House. “What an honor it was to be a part of this wonderful event that raises money for the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club of New York. I’ve attended the Kips Bay Show House many times through the years and always dreamed of being a part of the actual design of one of the rooms. It was really a pinch me moment to be chosen among the other incredible designers.”
Jonathan recently wrapped up a brilliant townhouse in the Putney neighborhood in London for the daughter of a client out of Nashville. “To work abroad can be complicated for a designer but it’s the kind of challenge that I live for. Since I love to source local artists and products for my projects it was a great opportunity to take advantage of the London art and antique scene.” 2018 resumed his international travels with his annual trip to Maison et Objet in Paris, France where he was on the lookout for antiques, art and accessories. “To be able to go to Paris, the mecca for inspiration, and then come home and produce the ideas into a project is what it’s all about. Last year I found the table that I used as the centerpiece to my O’More Show House Dining Room. This year I can’t wait to see what inspires me.”
As a native of Tennessee, raised by a family prominent in real estate development, and a mother with a love for the fine arts, Jonathan’s southern heritage and upbringing is a compliment to his love of design. His mother kept on hand many issues of Better Homes & Gardens and House Beautiful, which was a wonderful source of inspiration for young Jonathan. With this foundation, it’s no surprise that he found his passion for interior design.
After graduating from O’More College of Design in Franklin, Tennessee, Jonathan set his sights on New York City, the epicenter of design and inspiration. “I knew that if I wanted to do design as a career, I would have to spend some time in New York. Working under one of the most talented designers of our time, David Kleinberg, was icing on the cake,” said Jonathan. While designing a combination of modern and traditional spaces from the Hamptons, to lofts in New York City, he refined his eye and found his personal design aesthetic; modern with a classic twist.
After spending a few years working at DKDA in New York, Jonathan returned home. He headed back south, to set up his eponymous firm, SAVAGE Interior Design. SAVAGE Interior Design designed interiors for Traditional Home’s O’More College of Design Show House in 2013 and 2014. In 2016 Jonathan joined the Board of the O’More College of Design and founded the Alumni Association, positions he enjoys as he is able to support the next generation of young design students. Jonathan was honored to be named Best Design Firm in Nashville by the inaugural Nashville Lifestyles Home awards as well as a finalist in the Fashion Group International Rising Star Awards. Giving back has always been important and Jonathan supported his mentor Albert Hadley by designing a space at Rooms With a View and most recently a Salon at the Southeastern Designer Showhouse in Atlanta. He has spoken on panels at Southern Style Now, ADAC, High Point to name a few. While Jonathan is an established designer in Nashville you can find his designs in Brooklyn, Napa, New York and London…
