Desert Vogue

Complementing the modernist tradition of the area, this Palm Springs home is infused with Art Deco and contemporary furnishings and a stunning art collection, woven together in harmony by Sheldon Harte of Harte Brownlee. The owners wanted a classic modern design with rich materials, and that is what Harte and his team delivered. The 12,000-square-foot house is luxury down to the hardware and the antique clock from Lee Stanton in the $700,000 wenge wood-and-stainless steel kitchen and the fiber-optic glass staircase. There are many of the greats in contemporary art throughout the house, such as Wayne Thiebaud, Elmer Bischoff, Manuel Neri, Debra Butterworth, David Park and Hans Hoffman. Richard Diebenkorn’s “#1 Spade” hangs above the bed in the master suite, a Frank Stella at the top of the stairwell, and a Sam Francis in the dining room. Blue Chip art notwithstanding, the house is for 3 generations of family to use, and that they do. In this house and in this family, the wife cooks!
