Southampton, NY

Photography by Genevieve Garruppo

Situated in the esteemed estate district of Southampton, where the original manor houses emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this project required a nuanced approach. Balancing the nostalgic allure of older residences reminiscent of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Maine with the distinctive Hamptons style was essential. The clients sought a blend of grandeur and warmth in the interiors, eliminating the need for a formal dining room in favor of incorporating it into a spacious great room. Furthermore, a desire to capitalize on indoor-outdoor living prompted the design of multiple spaces for dining, relaxation, reading, and entertainment beyond the main house, extending to the pool pavilion. The interior achieves a harmonious blend of elements, incorporating artisan-made items, sophisticated mid-century design, a mix of contemporary and classic printed textiles, and a sculptural forged steel staircase. In doing so, this design pays homage to the past while embracing a forward-looking aesthetic.
