TEFAF New York
October 22-26, 2016
The European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF), the internationally renowned art and antiques fair, will hold its inaugural edition of the New York Fall fair, with an annual Spring edition to follow in May 2017. Years of demands by exhibitors and private and institutional collectors in Maastricht to have a TEFAF platform in the Unites States prompted this monumental event. A joint venture with Artvest Partners, an art investment advisory firm, the TEFAF New York Fall fair will be the centerpiece of TEFAF Week, featuring 94 of the world’s most illustrious dealers of fine art, design, furniture, and jewelry from antiquity to the early 20th century. Launched in 1988 as the first art fair run by dealers, for dealers, TEFAF’s foundation supports the dealer community and champions the finest art in the world. It is unparalleled in its level of quality and the methods employed to establish the level of authenticity of every piece on display. TEFAF’s Vetting Committee is comprised of 209 experts working in 29 categories. The committee scrutinizes every item to be presented at the fairs utilizing sophisticated equipment such as Hirox digital microscopes, UV and infrared reflectography, direct digital radiography, and X-ray fluorescence portable spectrometers. On Thursday, October 20th, Luke Syson, Curator in Charge of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will present a keynote address, “Hugging Zombies: how the Met has been collecting art that’s out of fashion and why you should, too,” – a take on his wildly popular Ted Talk, which has garnered over a million views. A special exhibition presented by the Rijksmuseum on the 17th century Dutch draughtsman Hercules Segers will complement the fair. TEFAF New York will be held in the Park Avenue Armory with an Opening Night reception held October 21, benefiting Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Park Avenue Armory’s cultural program.

October 22, 2016 - February 20, 2017
The Fondation Louis Vuitton’s monumental exhibition, Icons of Modern Art, will bring together the pioneering collection of Russian industrialist Sergei Shchukin, amassed at the turn of the 20th century, for the first time in almost 70 years. Through an unprecedented agreement, Icons of Modern Art will present 160 works dating from 1890 through 1914, including 130 artworks from the Shchukin collection by masters such as Picasso, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Matisse, and Van Gogh. The exhibition will alao highlight 30 examples by trailblazing Russian artists such as Malevitch, Klioun, Tatline, and Rodchenko, demonstrating how Shchukin’s decision to open his Trubetzkoy Palace in Moscow to the public in 1908 ignited the Russian avant-garde movement. The exhibition will be on view throughout the Fondation’s entire 126,000-square-foot Frank Gehry-designed building in Paris.
