Aksel Bender Madsen
Danish, 1916 - 2000
Aksel Bender Madsen (1916-2000) was a Danish architect and furniture designer who played a significant role in the Danish modernist movement. He was born in Copenhagen and studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he later taught.
Madsen began his career as an architect, designing several notable buildings in Denmark, including the Danish Embassy in Paris. However, he is perhaps best known for his furniture designs, which are characterized by their clean lines, simplicity, and functionality.
Madsen designed a wide range of furniture, including chairs, tables, and sofas, many of which are still produced today. His most iconic designs include the "Model 711" armchair, the "BM62" sofa, and the "Model 75" dining chair.
Madsen's contributions to Danish design helped establish the Scandinavian design movement as a major force in the design world. His furniture designs continue to be celebrated for their timeless elegance and functionality, and his legacy continues to inspire contemporary designers.
