Don Shoemaker
American, 1920 - 1990
Don Shoemaker, a furniture designer from Nebraska, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before discovering a deep passion for Mexican culture during his honeymoon in the late 1940s. In the late 1950s, he founded Senal S.A., a furniture factory in Mexico, where he created modern reinterpretations of traditional Mexican designs. Shoemaker’s innovative pieces, including the Sling Sloucher chair, Sling Swinger chair, Suspension stool, and various coffee tables, gained international acclaim. Today, Don Shoemaker’s furniture—chairs, tables, and decorative objects—continues to be cherished by collectors and design enthusiasts around the world.
