George Mulhauser (1916-2002) was an American furniture designer best known for his iconic plywood lounge chair, the Plycraft Chair. Mulhauser studied industrial design at the Pratt Institute in New York and went on to work as a designer for a number of prominent furniture companies throughout his career, including Plycraft, which he co-founded in the 1950s.

Mulhauser's Plycraft Chair was a breakthrough in furniture design, featuring a streamlined, contoured plywood shell and a five-star swivel base. The chair became an instant classic and was widely copied by other furniture manufacturers. Mulhauser went on to design a number of other successful pieces for Plycraft, including the "Mr. Chair" and "Mrs. Chair" lounge chairs, which were also made from molded plywood.

In addition to his work with Plycraft, Mulhauser designed furniture for a number of other companies, including Baker Furniture, Knoll, and Selig. His work is characterized by its innovative use of materials and its emphasis on comfort and functionality. Today, his designs are highly sought after by collectors and are considered important examples of mid-century modern furniture design.
