L'Atelier San Paulo
Brazilian
L'Atelier São Paulo stands as a rare gem among South American furniture manufacturers, celebrated for its commitment to marrying premium materials with elegant simplicity. Embracing the minimalist aesthetic of mid-century modern design and the sleek lines of contemporary style, its furniture exudes a subtle sensuality and a captivating tension that has captivated enthusiasts for decades.
Central to L'Atelier São Paulo's philosophy is the artful combination of fine materials. Whether pairing luxurious woods with exquisite marble or supple leather with polished chrome, each piece embodies a refined sophistication and meticulous craftsmanship.
Founded by Jorge Zalszupin, a distinguished architect and furniture designer, L'Atelier São Paulo creates bespoke pieces for both commercial and residential spaces from its base in São Paulo, Brazil. Born Jerzy Zalszupin into a Jewish family in Poland in 1922, Zalszupin sought refuge in Romania during the Nazi occupation before completing his architecture studies at Bucharest’s École des Beaux-Arts in 1944. In 1949, he immigrated to Brazil, leaving behind the ravages of war-torn Europe. After establishing a successful architectural practice, Zalszupin followed his passion for furniture design by founding L'Atelier São Paulo in 1959.
Under Zalszupin's visionary leadership, the company's designs often draw inspiration from architectural giants like Oscar Niemeyer, Le Corbusier, and Lucio Costa. Emphasizing Brazil's rich biodiversity, L'Atelier São Paulo showcases local tropical hardwoods such as jacaranda, imbuia, and rosewood in its coffee tables, dining chairs, and bar carts, highlighting the country's diverse forests. Incorporating Argentina’s renowned carpincho leather and gleaming metals like brass, chrome, and stainless steel into its lounge chairs, sofas, and serveware, the brand's creations effortlessly blend sophistication with eclectic flair, elevating any interior with timeless elegance.
