Ole Wanscher

Danish, 1903 - 1985
Architect Ole Wanscher was born in Copenhagen in 1903. Specializing in furniture design, he came to define Danish furniture as both a desinger and teacher -- viewing it as essentially an extension of architecture. Many of his furniture designs, which were characterized by slim yet sturdy forms and sleek, curved armrests (as in the case of his Colonial Chair) are now considered to be modern classics for their attention to detail and elegant combination of form and funtion. As a Danish Newspaper once described Wanscher's sofas and chairs: 'Owning a Wanscher is an adventure every day, and will be so even serveral hundred years from now, for this is how long it lasts.'
