Quezal
American
Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company, based in Queens, New York, was founded in the early 1900s by former Tiffany artisans Martin Bach, Sr. and Thomas Johnson, and named after the brilliantly colored Central American quetzal bird. The company gained recognition for its richly iridescent blown-glass pieces—vases, compotes, bowls, lighting shades—often decorated with pulled feather, floral, and natural motifs that reflected the Art Nouveau style. Quezal’s craftsmanship rivaled that of Tiffany and Steuben, but its operation was comparatively brief, closing by the mid-1920s.
