Raymond Subes
French, 1891 - 1970
Raymond Subes (1893-1970) was a French metalworker. He studied at Ecole Boule and Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. In 1916, Subes began his career in Emile Robert’s atelier. Subes designed wrought (hand forged) iron for cathedrals, churches, monuments and many oceanliners. After World War II, Subes became director of Borderel et Robert, while remaining active as a metalworker. In 1958 he became a member of the Academie des Beaux-Arts.
