Sèvres Porcelain / Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres

French, 1756 - 2017
The Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, also known as the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, is a French porcelain factory that was established in 1756. It is located in the town of Sèvres, near Paris, and is considered one of the most important porcelain manufacturers in the world.
The factory was initially established to produce hard-paste porcelain, which was a difficult and costly process at the time. Over the years, the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory became renowned for its exquisite and innovative designs, as well as its technical expertise in producing porcelain. The factory has supplied porcelain to many French monarchs and was designated as a national factory by King Louis XV in 1759.
One of the hallmarks of Sèvres porcelain is its signature blue color, known as "bleu celeste," which was developed by the factory in the late 18th century. The factory also developed many other colors and techniques, including the use of gilding and hand-painted designs.
Today, the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory is still in operation and produces porcelain for a variety of purposes, including decorative objects, tableware, and artistic pieces. The factory is also a museum that showcases its rich history and collection of porcelain pieces, which range from the 18th century to the present day.
