STUDIO K.O.S.
American
Studio K.O.S. (K.O.S. stands for "Kids of Survival") is a collaborative art group founded in the 1980s by a group of artists and students from a high school in Harlem, New York City. The group's founding members included Tim Rollins, Angel Abreu, Robert Branch, Jorge Abreu, Rick Savinon, and others.
Studio K.O.S. combines art and activism to create works that explore social and political issues, particularly those affecting marginalized communities. They often incorporate literary and historical references in their works, and have produced a number of series based on classic literature such as Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and Orwell's "1984".
The group's artwork has been exhibited at major museums and galleries around the world, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Tate Modern. They have also been involved in a number of community-based projects and educational initiatives, including the creation of a non-profit organization that provides art education programs to underserved youth in New York City.
