Walker Weed

Walker Weed is is a self taught furniture designer and maker who maintained a shop in Gilford, NH from 1948 to 1964, when he became Director of the Crafts Program at Dartmouth College, Hanover NH. He was a founding member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, and served on its board through the 1950’s. He was a Trustee of the American Crafts Council from 1956 - 1957 and participated on the woodworking panel at the seminal 1957 ACC Conference in Asilomar, CA. While working at the Dartmouth Crafts Program, through the 70’s and 80’s he taught woodworking workshops at schools across the country, including Penland, Haystack and Anderson Ranch, and was elected a Fellow of the American Crafts Council in 1992. His work has been shown internationally in exhibitions and publications for over 50 years, including the 2004 exhibition “The Maker’s Hand”, co-sponsored by the Furniture Society and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
