Yngve Ekström

Yngve Ekström (1913-1988) was a Swedish furniture designer and entrepreneur, best known for founding the furniture company Swedese in 1945. He is considered one of the most significant designers of the post-war period in Sweden, and his work is characterized by its clean lines, elegant simplicity, and use of natural materials.
 
Ekström was born in Hagafors, Sweden, and trained as a carpenter and furniture designer. After founding Swedese, he began producing a range of furniture designs that were characterized by their modern aesthetic and functional design. His most famous designs include the Lamino chair, which was first introduced in 1956 and remains one of Swedese's best-selling products to this day.
 
The Lamino chair is known for its sleek, curved lines and use of natural materials, including birch and sheepskin. It is widely regarded as a modern classic, and has been exhibited in several major museums and galleries around the world.
 
Ekström was also known for his work as a designer of public spaces, and was responsible for the interior design of several notable buildings in Sweden, including the Stockholm Concert Hall and the Swedish National Bank. He was awarded several design prizes during his career, including the Swedish Design Prize and the Lunning Prize.
 
Today, Swedese continues to produce a range of furniture designs that reflect Ekström's commitment to simplicity, quality craftsmanship, and sustainable design.
