Description
This Victorian-era gilt bronze and glass owl jardiniere, crafted in America circa 1880, is a remarkable fusion of form and function, serving as both a decorative object and a planter. Designed with an owl’s head as its focal point, the piece captivates with its intricate sculptural detailing. The gilt bronze of the owl is richly textured, highlighting the lifelike feathers and expressive contours that define its commanding presence. Most striking are the owl’s eyes, rendered in amber and black glass, which create a vividly captivating gaze and add depth and intrigue to the overall design. As a jardiniere, the hollowed form of the owl’s head allows for the placement of plants or flowers, making it an elegant container for natural elements while retaining the era’s fascination with symbolic and naturalistic motifs. This piece encapsulates the craftsmanship and artistic vision of the late 19th century, offering a blend of functional utility and decorative sophistication that remains captivating more than a century later. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
