Description
This character filled A Bamana Wrought Iron Equestrian Sculpture originates from Mali during the latter half of the 20th Century. Features a rectilinear black base on which four curved hooves of the horse figure rest, with subtly curving legs leading up to a minimal rectangular body, with the tail and head of the horse extending at either end. The iron of the tail is twisted to evoke the textural detailing of horse hair, with a link of chain leading from the bridle to the hand of the rider, which is attached with a hinged point to tilt the figure forward and back on the horse as one would riding in real life. The figure is rendered with a hood, short curved legs, and a raised right hand curled as though gripping a spear for hunting or battle. Coming from the A Bamana tribe in Mali, this piece is culturally rich and cleverly designed. A beautiful sculpture at a great scale for versatility of placement and display, this piece will style well in a wide array of interiors and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Contemporary and Minimal Interiors. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
