Art Deco Bulb Glass Vases, Teal Art Glass, Austria, Early 20th Century

Description
A charming pair of diminutive Art Deco vases in a rich teal-blue glass, each of bulb form with a broad flattened base rising to a tall, narrow cylindrical neck. Both are hand-decorated with gilt scrolling motifs — a ribbon-and-scroll band encircling the neck, and concentric gilt spirals on the shoulder, each centered with an applied dark green glass cabochon "jewel." This applied jeweled decoration over vividly colored glass is characteristic of the small-scale decorative "bijoux" (jewel) vases produced by French glasshouses during the Art Deco period, intended as intimate accent pieces for a vanity, mantel, or vitrine display.

The compact scale and confident color-blocking of teal against gold make this a versatile decorative pair, equally suited to grouping with other small art glass or displaying on their own.
