Art Deco Glass Vase by Charles Schneider, Purple Hues, France, 1930

Description
A superb example of French Art Deco art glass by Charles Schneider, this baluster-form vase features a dramatic mottled decoration in deep purple, burnt orange, and touches of green, achieved through internal powder inclusions ("intercalaire" technique) within layers of clear glass. The bulbous body rises from a tapering foot with a flared circular base to a subtly ribbed shoulder and flared rim, embodying the sculptural, organic silhouettes favored by Schneider's atelier in Épinay-sur-Seine.
The rich, tortoiseshell-like mottling is characteristic of Schneider's celebrated marmoréen and jade glass lines, in which powdered colored glass was rolled into the molten body before final forming, producing the cloudy, layered depth of color visible throughout. The base is signed "Schneider" in script.
