Description
A beautiful small and unique ceramic plate designed by Birger Kaipiainen for Arabia in Finland in the 1970s. The plate is decorated with multiple four-leaf clovers, three-leaf clovers, and flowers, creating a charming and whimsical design. Though petite, it carries an extra touch of good luck—clearly the artist’s intention with the clover motif. The colors are bright and cheerful, and the piece remains in very good condition. It is signed "Kaipiainen" on the back. Complimentary shipping is offered on this item.
Birger Kaipiainen (1915–1988) was a master of decorative ceramics, renowned for his rich and colorful ornamental designs. His work often featured intricate motifs such as fruits, women, butterflies, flowers, and birds, frequently adorned with beads. As the leading figure in mid-century Finnish ceramics, Kaipiainen enjoyed a long and celebrated career at Arabia Oy, where he was granted increasing creative freedom. Over time, his style evolved into a more surreal and expressive form compared to his early work. To this day, he remains one of Finland’s most revered designers. Among his many accolades is the prestigious Grand Prix award at the Milan Triennale in 1951. -
