Description
Elegant pair of French Art Deco dinanderie vases by Luc Lanel for Christofle, featuring an ovoid silhouette with a short cylindrical neck and a richly patinated metallic surface. The warm gilt finish and abstract aged patterning give the pair a refined, luxurious presence, while the balanced proportions and clean lines reflect the sophistication of French decorative design in the 1920s and 1930s. Luc Lanel was an important designer for Christofle and is closely associated with the house’s Art Deco output, especially its finely crafted metalwork and innovative decorative surfaces. His designs are prized for their combination of modern geometry, elegant restraint, and exceptional finish, all of which are visible in this pair.
These vases work beautifully as decorative objects on their own or as a pair on a console, mantel, or bookshelf. Their substantial shape and luminous patina make them especially attractive to collectors of French Art Deco metalwork and Christofle pieces.
Luc Lanel was a French designer born in 1893 who trained at the École des arts décoratifs in Paris. That training shaped his precise, geometric approach to form and helped launch his career in metalwork, silversmithing, and decorative design.
He began working for Christofle in 1920 and became one of the house’s important interwar designers, especially in silver-plated metal, chrome, bronze, and other refined materials. His style moved away from 19th-century ornament toward the cleaner, more modern lines associated with Art Deco and early modernism. - More Information
