French 19th Century Painted Gilt Barometer
-
Description
Dimensions: 37” H x 11 ⅝” W x 2 ¾” D
French 19th century Louis XVI style painted and parcel gold-gilt barometer and thermometer. It is a recognizable ‘banjo’ shaped scientific instrument with all the carved details in gold gilt mounted to a case of painted, sage green. The circular dial of the barometer has painted (faded) lettering behind protective glass for reading the current conditions, while the thermometer above is scaled. It may no longer work for taking accurate measurements, this relic of meteorology history is an intriguing decorative piece to add French flourish to any wall.
