Description
This George-II-influenced Baroque-style American silver-plated candelabra pair is signed by the Gorham Manufacturing Company of Rhode Island, circa 1900-1925. Each candelabrum has four swirling arms ending in four candle holders with removeable bobeches - all surrounding the fifth, central candle holder also with a removeable bobeche. The four-arms-attachment can be removed and the central column can then be used as a single candlestick, with or without its bobeche. The Baroque motif is in repoussé and chased foliage and tendril patterns and bulbous forms. The stamped mark on the bottom of each base reads "Plated by Gorham Mfg. Company", below which is the stamped hallmark for their plated silver: A sunburst containing an anchor. The silver is in very good condition. The quality of workmanship and finishing is superb. The base of each scalloped shaft is 6" in diameter, while the overall measurements are below. These candelabra are substantial, impressive, heavy, and versatile.
