The kingdom of the Igala covers a huge plain;in the past this whole area was traversed by waves of migration and was heavily influenced by the neighboring Igbo and Idoma.Their art includes examples of representations of female figures whose purpose is to enhance fertility (mother and child) and underline social standing (triple bracelets on both arms).With a crested hairstyle, hands set on either side of the protruding navel, typical design of the face and body scarifications,round ears and a sturdy position ,this figure is clearly associated with Igala personal worship.The wood is well oxidized with a deep brown patina.

Le royaume des Igala couvre une immense plaine; par le passé, toute cette région était traversée par des vagues de migrations et était fortement influencée par les Igbo et les Idoma voisins. Leur art comprend des exemples de représentations de figures féminines dont le but est d'améliorer la fertilité (mère et enfant) et de souligner le statut social (bracelets triples aux deux bras). Avec une coiffure crêtée, les mains posées de chaque côté du nombril proéminent, un design typique des scarifications du visage et du corps, des oreilles rondes et une position solide, cette figure est clairement associée au culte personnel des Igala. Le bois est bien oxydé, avec une patine brune profonde.
