Mid-Century Gold-Plated Ceramic Sculpture of a Reclining Man Signed Jaru

This Mid-Century gold-plated ceramic sculpture, depicting a reclining man, is an iconic work of American design signed Jaru, circa 1977. The figure, captured in a relaxed cross-legged pose, exudes a sleek modernist aesthetic with clean, continuous surfaces that favor sculptural planes over anatomical detail. The streamlined form balances gentle curves with crisp folded planes—an interplay of planar geometry and subtle curvature that shifts beautifully when viewed from different angles. The figure’s elongated limbs, squared shoulders, and tilted head create a compact yet expressive composition, while the luminous gold-plated finish accentuates the transitions between shallow hollows and crisp edges. This radiant surface transforms the minimalist form into a dynamic presence, casting reflections that enliven the subtle sculptural rhythm. Poised and self-contained, the work communicates both measured leisure and formal abstraction, making it a striking statement piece. Signed by Jaru, a Los Angeles-based decorative arts studio founded in 1950, this sculpture represents the brand's innovative artistry during the height of its Mid-Century production. This piece is an enduring example of late-20th-century American craftsmanship, seamlessly blending modernism with timeless elegance. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
