Description
Art Deco cold-patinated bronze sculpture by André-Marcel Bouraine, France, circa 1930, entitled Satyr Abducting a Nymph.
The powerful mythological scene depicts a muscular satyr striding forward with one leg extended as he carries a swooning nymph across his shoulders, her body arched in a dramatic counter‑movement that emphasizes the tension between abduction and abandon.
Bouraine’s finely chased surface and subtle polychrome patina accentuate the anatomy, drapery, and bestial features of the satyr, highlighting the sculptor’s talent for combining classical proportions with the stylized energy of French Art Deco.
The group rests on a hand-sculpted rock-form stone base, which adds texture and height while reinforcing the sense of motion as the figures advance across the terrain.
Signed “Bouraine” on the base, this important model is documented in the literature and exemplifies the artist’s fascination with athletic, theatrical compositions inspired by modern dance and ballet.
A striking centerpiece for a console or pedestal, it brings museum-level Art Deco sculpture and a bold, narrative presence to any collection.
