Description
This exquisite red soapstone Bi disc is a remarkable artifact from Neolithic China, dating back to the 3rd millennium BC. Set on a modern iron base, the disc reflects the timeless beauty and mystery of ancient craftsmanship. Bi discs, characterized by their distinctive large, smooth-ring shape, were polished with meticulous care, demonstrating the skill and artistry of early Chinese stone workers.
The precise purpose of Bi discs remains uncertain; however, their presence in tombs suggests a ritual or symbolic significance. Fine examples were often found surrounding the deceased, with the most exceptional discs placed upon the chest, hinting at their importance in burial rites and their possible role as spiritual or protective objects.
This red soapstone example, with its striking coloration and clean, understated form, bridges millennia of tradition. Ideal for collectors and admirers of ancient Chinese art, it offers both historical intrigue and aesthetic harmony, standing as a testament to the craftsmanship and enigmatic rituals of Neolithic China.
