'SPHERE 32' - from 'CUMULOS' series - geometric sculpture

The 'Sphere 32' from the series 'CUMULOS' is a geometric sculpture piece. It was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s Synergetics, one of the foundational texts in contemporary geometrical studies in which Fuller reflects on the modular possibilities of the cuboctahedron (in geometry, a polyhedron with eight triangular faces and six square faces).
In CUMULOS, artist Pedro Cerisola discovers new approaches to a modular assembly for this singular form, extending its possibilities and enabling the construction of spectacular, yet delicate, structures that, like clusters of clouds, seem to float above the Earth.
The hard and fragile ceramic, as well as the white glazing of each piece, allows CUMULOS to interact with the lighting of its surroundings.
In his prolific work,? Pedro Cerisola (Mexico) combines advanced technology with highly skilled craftsmanship. His objects are created researching the beauty of geometric constructive principles found in nature and how these systems can be applied to the design and fabrication of modular structures. Cerisola ?s work is in the permanent collection of the University Museum of Sciences in Mexico City and has been exhibited at the Museo Rufino Tamayo, Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Franz Mayer Design Museum, at Wanted Design in New York, Zona Maco Mexico City and private galleries.
