Rare Round Carved Wood Box with Inset Glass Top Attributed to Pietro Chiesa

Creator: Pietro Chiesa (Attributed) - Fontana Arte (FontanaArte)
Offered by: soyun k.

Description
Rare and exquisite round carved wood box with inset Nile green glass top attributed to Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte, Italy, 1940s. The sculptural circular body is beautifully hand-carved with a rhythmic radiating pattern and deeply notched perimeter, its rich dark finish highlighting the prominent natural grain of the wood. A thick, polished Nile green (Verde Nilo) glass lid is inset into the carved surround, creating a striking contrast between the luminous colored glass and richly textured wood.

Elegant in proportion and highly sculptural in form, this exceptional decorative box exemplifies the sophisticated combination of glass and natural materials characteristic of Pietro Chiesa's work for Fontana Arte during the period. Both functional and decorative, it is a refined and highly collectible example of mid-century Italian design.
