Description
Raymon Elozua RTP Teapot #6, 1990
Raymon Elozua (American, b. 1947, Bad Cannstatt, West Germany)
RTP Teapot #6, 1990
Glazed terracotta, whiteware, and steel rod.
An expressive sculptural assemblage combining fragmented ceramic forms with an angular framework of steel rods. Incorporating elements suggestive of traditional teapot forms, the work transforms a familiar functional object into a dynamic, abstract composition. Its exposed construction, industrial references, and contrasting red and black glazes reflect Elozua's exploration of material, structure, and fragmentation.
Born in Bad Cannstatt, West Germany, in 1947 and raised in South Chicago, Elozua developed an artistic practice informed by industrial architecture, labor, and urban decline. His work is represented in major museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, and Yale University Art Gallery. His career was the subject of retrospectives at the Mint Museum in 2003 and the Everson Museum of Art in 2022.
