Description
Sèvres style porcelain and gilt bronze jardinière and vase garniture suite
French, Late 19th Century
Vases: height 72cm, width 36cm, depth 22cm
Urn: height 53cm, width 56cm, depth 29cm
This exquisite three-piece garniture, consisting of a central urn with a wide and shallow bowl, and accompanied by two taller, lidded vases is a stunning piece of French Rococo and Sèvres style design, which can be enjoyed both as an outstanding piece of decorative art, or used more practically as a display piece without comparison. It will make a wonderful addition to any interior location where its fine design and craftsmanship can be properly enjoyed.
The central piece is mounted on a circular gilt bronze plinth, which is architectural in style, and which is ornamented with winding, foliate patterns and beading. It is raised up on four straight feet, and is decorated with acanthus leaves, as are the plinths of the two flanking vases. Above this, a gilt bronze laurel leaf wreath wraps around the socle, connecting it to the base. The porcelain socle, supporting the body of the jardinière, is painted a royal blue colour, decorated with floral band on a white ground, and with parcel gilt ornament.
The porcelain bodies, with elaborate gilt motifs, framed a series of Rococo-style scenes of aristocratic courtship to the front, and landscape scenes to the reverse. They are signed, 'Le Berre,' and depict beautiful tranquil scenes, sitting perfectly within the richly gilt and decorative bodies of each piece. Each piece also features handles with exquisite classically-inspired female busts, below beautiful pierced scrolling vine patterns that crest each item.
