Description
Paul Silvestre silvered bronze model of Diana for Susse Frères
French, early 20th Century
Height 85cm, width 44cm, depth 20cm
This stunning silvered bronze model is the work of the French sculptor Paul Silvestre (1884-1976) for Susse Freres, the famous metalworking firm based in Paris in the late 19th and early 20th Century. The model shows the Roman goddess of hunting, Diana, holding her bow and standing mid stride. There are marks on the square base of the model for both Silvestre and Susse Freres. They read, respectively, 'Silvestre, cire perdue' and 'Susses Fes Edts Paris'. The base also bears the stamp for Susse Freres Paris. -
