Description
A remarkable example of mid-century Mexican artisan metalwork, this sculptural hammered copper pitcher was handcrafted in Taxco by renowned metalsmith Alfredo Villasana. Beautifully balancing functionality with artistic expression, the vessel features a striking stylized bird-form lid and spout in warm brass, accented with vibrant crushed turquoise inlay across the wings, tail, and eye. The elegant avian form transforms the pitcher into a true work of sculptural design.
Executed in hand-hammered copper with a gracefully flared silhouette, the pitcher reflects the exceptional craftsmanship for which Taxco became internationally celebrated during the mid-20th century. Villasana's work is highly regarded for blending traditional Mexican metalsmithing techniques with modernist sculptural forms, making his pieces sought after by collectors of Mexican design, decorative arts, and handcrafted copper.
Whether displayed as a sculptural centerpiece, decorative vessel, bar accessory, or collectible object, this piece complements interiors ranging from Mid-Century Modern and Organic Modern to Santa Barbara, Hacienda, Southwestern, Spanish Colonial Revival, and contemporary interiors. Its rich copper patina and brilliant turquoise details create an exceptional visual statement.
The underside is stamped:
"Cobre Mexico"
"Plateado"
"Taxco"
"Villasaña"
