Description
Deep Sea Majesty: Buccellati Sterling Silver Marine Theme Oyster Tray with Octopus
This exceptional work from Buccellati’s marine-inspired oeuvre brings the ocean’s mythic allure to your tabletop. At its heart lies a lifelike octopus, its finely chased body and intricately detailed suction cups rendered in sterling silver with mesmerizing realism. Its tentacles unfurl across an undersea tableau of swirling waves and shell motifs, leading to an integrated oyster shell dish that blends sculptural beauty with functional elegance.
Cast with fifteen oyster-form wells and a removable oyster shell-form bowl, the tray rests on three finely worked conch shell feet, completing the illusion of a marine tableau frozen in time. Its design is a hallmark of Buccellati’s celebrated “Sea” collection — made with age-old techniques such as chiseling, repoussé, and burnishing, each detail is handcrafted to luminous perfection.
This piece exemplifies Buccellati’s unparalleled ability to transform sterling silver into living sculpture. Both whimsical and majestic, it celebrates the wonders of the sea while embodying the house’s virtuoso craftsmanship. As Architectural Digest noted, Buccellati’s marine creations “serve no earthly purpose other than to delight” and offer a surreal, theatrical flourish to the art of entertaining.
Rare, dramatic, and utterly unique, this oyster tray is not merely ornamental — it is a conversation starter, a centerpiece of storytelling, and a statement piece destined for a collector with a taste for the exceptional.
