Description
This exquisite set of twelve Murano art glass champagne saucers, attributed to Salviati and crafted in Italy circa 1950, epitomizes Venetian glassmaking at its most refined and historically evocative. Rendered in a lustrous, translucent azure blue, the bowls of each glass radiate a sense of sophistication and timeless charm. Surrounding the exterior basin is a masterfully hand-painted tableau depicting figures from antiquity, locked in dynamic battle scenes. Muscular warriors clad in vibrant orange robes and sashes clash amidst horses, shields, and swords, their fluid movements cascading across the surface in a breathtaking visual narrative. The interplay of these motifs—the swirling motion of the combatants, the vividness of their attire, and the metallic gleam of their weapons—creates a sense of drama and harmony that is nothing short of mesmerizing.
Adding to the grandeur, the rims of each saucer are circumscribed by intricate painted gilt flourishes, enhancing the elegance of the vessel while paying homage to traditional Venetian decorative techniques. The stems of the glasses, elegantly slender and thoughtfully varied in design, feature delicate prunts on select pieces. These ornamental glass accents not only serve as an artistic touch but also provide an ergonomic grip, blending practicality with beauty in true Murano fashion.
Altogether, this set is a dazzling convergence of form, function, and artistry. Suitable for elevating special occasions or displayed as an objet d’art, these champagne saucers showcase Salviati’s unparalleled craftsmanship and the enduring allure of mid-century Murano glass production.. Excellent Vintage Condition.
