Description
A refined matched pair of silver-plated postmodern bowls designed by celebrated architect Richard Meier for Swid Powell, New York, circa 1980s. Executed with Meier’s signature architectural restraint, each bowl features a clean hemispherical form accented by an elegant pierced gallery rim reminiscent of Viennese Secessionist and early modernist metalwork.
Founded by former Knoll executives Nan Swid and Addie Powell, Swid Powell became one of the most important design collaborations of the postmodern era, commissioning iconic architects and designers including Michael Graves, Ettore Sottsass, Robert Venturi, and Richard Meier to create luxury tabletop and decorative objects.
These bowls exemplify Meier’s disciplined geometric aesthetic and translate his architectural language into functional decorative art. Equally compelling as centerpieces, barware accessories, or sculptural accents, the pair offers exceptional versatility and timeless sophistication.
Both examples retain their original maker’s marks to the underside.
A rare opportunity to acquire a true matched pair of Richard Meier for Swid Powell bowls in silver plate. -
