Description
A rare collection of five uniquely sculptural ceramic forms by Texas artist, Evelyn E. Anderson.
Each piece is hand signed with Anderson's hallmark and embossed with unique serial numbers.
The largest form is 11" high x 16" diameter. If you would like dimensions for a specific piece please reach out to us.
Acquired from the important private collection of a Texas Italian Design dealer.
Evelyn E. Anderson was a pioneering force in mid-century modern ceramics, whose work bridged the elegance of form with the raw intensity of brutalist expression. Born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1932, Anderson’s artistic journey took her across Europe and back to the heart of Texas, where she honed her craft at the University of Houston and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Her early recognition—winning the 1963 Texas Crafts Exhibition—marked her as a standout talent in a field dominated by both amateur and professional voices.
Her ceramic pieces reflect a deep engagement with architectural texture and sculptural mass, often embracing asymmetry, earthy neutral glazes, and tactile surfaces that evoke the spirit of brutalism while remaining distinctly personal. Anderson’s work is not merely decorative—it’s evocative, grounded in the ethos of mid-century experimentation and the post-war desire to redefine beauty through raw materiality. Each piece carries the weight of her travels, studies, and fierce commitment to craft, making her ceramics a compelling addition to any serious collection of 20th-century design.
Evelyn E. Anderson’s legacy in studio ceramics endures beyond her passing in 2024, when she passed away at the age of 92 in Tucson, Arizona. -
