Description
An extraordinary survival, this pair of portraits depicting members of the Illig family was painted in 1833 for the marriage of Elisabeth Illig to Jacob Schoch. The Illig family lived in the Millbach area of Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. The portraits retain what appear to be their original period frames.
Translations of the text:
Elisabeth Illig was born the 19th February in the year 1811 in Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County, in the state of Pennsylvania in North America, and was married the 8th January in the year 1833 with Jacob Schoch.
Jacob Schoch was born the 20th December in the year 1807 in Newmanstown in Berks County in the state of Pennsylvania in North America and married the 8th January in the year 1833 with Elisabeth Illig. -
