Austrian, 19th Century
Frame: Height 43cm, width 52cm, depth 2cm
Plaque: Height 24cm, width 34cm, depth 0.5cm
This beautiful porcelain plaque is contained within an ornate pierced giltwood and velvet fronted frame. The plaque, painted by a ‘B. Kolb.’ for Royal Vienna, is oval in shape and is painted with a charming scene: several figures, including two babies and a horse, are gathered about a kneeling man who hands a baby to a young woman. The manner of execution is superbly fine, the most delicate of details deftly rendered, and the colour palette is bright and subtle, with pastel tones predominating.
The plaque is signed lower right ‘B. Kolb.’ while the reverse of the plaque is stamped with the mark of Royal Vienna.
