Antique English gilt bronze and marquetry desk by Donald Ross

This elegant mahogany writing desk by Donald Ross features Ross’ distinctive trellis and dot marquetry of satinwood and rosewood. The desk features a top adorned with this marquetry, which is framed in moulded gilt bronze and set above a conforming apron inset with twin frieze drawers, between which is a gilt bronze frame containing a porcelain plaque. The table is supported by four tapering legs, which are banded in gilt bronze and terminate in gilt bronze sabots. One drawer is stamped ‘Edwards & Roberts’ for the retailer.
