Description
Large late Qing Dynasty period very colorful ancestor portrait of husband and wife in the traditional frontal pose. They are seated on elaborate chairs or thrones in semiformal attire. She is wearing a bright red robe with an embroidered insignia that indicates the couple’s rank and status. She is also wearing an intricate headdress of gold, gems and pearls. Her feet and hands are hidden, while her husband’s long fingernails and feet are showing. On the table behind them are two vases filled with flowers and two plaques that probably indicate their ancestral lineage. The frame is black and mottled with pale gold. It has some minor staining, creases and buckling.
